House Bill Kills Bike/Ped Funding

Biking and walking are under attack in the House — please take action TODAY!

Next Thursday (Feb 2), the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will vote on the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, a bill that eliminates crucial funding for biking and walking. The following Representatives from Tennessee are members of this committee and are in a key position to save dedicated funding for biking and walking.

The American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, the long-awaited, multi-year transportation bill, eliminates the two largest programs that fund biking and walking — Transportation Enhancements and Safe Routes to School. Without these programs communities across the country will lose resources to build sidewalks, crosswalks and bikeways that making biking and walking safer and more accessible.

    We can't let that happen.

Our partners at America Bikes are working to introduce an amendment that will preserve funding for biking and walking. During Thursday's vote, your Representative could be the key in making sure this amendment is passed. Please reach out to your T&I committee member and ask that he or she support dedicated funding for biking and walking. Below, you'll find a sample letter you can customize to send to your Representative. In addition, America Bikes has compiled a number of additional resources, including:
    • A scriptfor talking to your Representative about this vote
    • Resourceson bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in your district
    • A timelineexplaining the bill's projected movement over coming weeks
Please take action today and forward this message to all of your members and supporters, with a link to the League of American Bicyclists' Action Center, where they can send an email directly to your T&I committee member.
