The Fall issue of rails to trails has a very nice article on Memphis Harahan Bridge. This will be a game changer for East-West Trans Am cycle tourers. Who would not prefer a route including friendly roads through Memphis, Nashville, and either Chattanooga or Knoxville to the vicious dog and coal truck infested Kentucky route.
Way to go Kyle, Anthony, Mark and company.

Governor delivers $600,000 grant for Rails Trails program Read more: Herald Citizen - Governor delivers $600,000 grant for Rails Trails program
Let's all hope this is not the end of transportation enhancement grant funding in the current debate.
"We all agree Tennessee's a wonderful place to live. But there's certainly things we think can make it even better," Haslam said, briefly interrupted at one point in his presentation by a passing train, horn blazing. "One of those is encouraging folks to be outdoors more, to get out, exercise for their own health, to use things like this. It's one of the reasons we look for great projects like this. Unfortunately, funds like this are limited, but when we do it (give them), we want to make certain they're (for) projects that count."

Another Cyclist Killed in Tennessee
This story is becoming all too familiar. Just twenty-one years old and killed by a drunk old man piloting a two ton weapon. BWT needs to follow this case and do everything we can to make sure that justice, such as it is, will be served. At least he has been charged with DUI and Vehicular Homicide. He's wealthy and politically connected so we need to made sure he doesn't get off with probation.

DEDICATED FUNDING FOR BICYCLING AND WALKING HAS BEEN CUT
DEDICATED FUNDING FOR BICYCLING AND WALKING HAS BEEN CUT in the House's Transportation proposal. Chairman Mica would eliminate critical Transportation Enhancements, Safe Routes to School and Recreational Trails Programs, programs that he referred to as “not in the national interest”. Chairman Mica’s statement that these uses remain “eligible” for funding is worthless; without dedicated funding for these three programs they are effectively eliminated.
